Mixbus definitely has a specific personality in regards to computers, you have to learn to understand how to use it lol.ġ. Mixbus is great, i just know I still have to be mindful on how I approach it.

I do get confused because I would see my Mac system monitor and the cpu would be low on the meters but then my temperature would be in 60s-70s and mixbus dsp would be not very high either, I know there is a kernel process along with mixbus that has cpu time along with any AU Rosetta plugins which uses a service on the system which uses cpu cycles and GPU usage when plugins use it so there is lots of areas to cover. The dsp performance is decent, however I find that when playing audio there is one of my 8 cores are taking lead and I’m not sure why because when audio is stopped the cpu cores go down, I guess mixbus has a different way of utilizing there always on DSP, I think I read in version 6 they do things differently. You can use Rosetta plugins AU etc but the ones that use lots of graphical interface features can add up and for apple silicon it’s all tight in that chip, if any thing in there overheats, things will throttle, unless your Mac has a good cooling fan which mine doesn’t, I have to be extra cautious. Which means with mixbus I have to mix differently and I changed buffer settings and it was the same. I was sad to see that because I barely had much third party plugins open and the ones that were open were very light. I try to limit my use of metering plugins, which can Makes mixbus heat up depending on the plugin, My temperature was hitting 80-90s degrees c. My cpu temps very getting High as well as cpu. It’s best to use native plugins as possible, and watch the GPU usage on some of your plugins especially the ones that are AU and are using Rosetta. Yes there are plugin gui bugs and weird things going on but when in use another format of the same plugin it usually works fine! Example vst to au version.

When mixbus is open plugins feel snappy and smooth and very nice, when playing back audio it retains that smooth performance however it can bog down a bit on larger sessions or how your using certain types of plugins that seem to hog resources.

The non apple silicon version was very choppy and not usable for me. Over time mixbus has been a lot more stable, I decided to give mixbus another shot with 8.1 on my m1 computer. In the past mixbus has been a mixed bag in regards to performance, it’s either buggy, slow, choppy, crashy.
